The director came to us, asking for a title that tells the prologue of the "fox spirit" before they came to earth. The fox spirit (狐狸精) or nine-tailed fox (九尾狐), having been originated from Chinese mythology, are often depicted as mischievous, usually tricking other people, with the ability to disguise as a beautiful woman.
We had only around 6 weeks to complete a 2:20 min long sequence, but we knew we want to take this opportunity to create a beautiful and unique style that embodies the essence of the show, a love story that originates from the Chinese mythology. The director wanted to piece to feel elegant but also light-hearted, we had a great time working on the story with a lot of Easter eggs hidden throughout, and was really please with how the style came out.
